Before you install your Autodesk software, prepare your system and collect the needed information. Complete the prechecks below before installing Autodesk software.
Product checks
Check the system requirements.
Confirm you’re using certified and recommended computer hardware.
Read the release notes for the software you are installing.
Operating system checks
Install available system updates and restart your computer before installing Autodesk software. See Install Windows Updates - Microsoft Support.
Close all applications before installing.
Permissions and Antivirus checks
An Administrator account is required to install Autodesk software.
User accounts should have full rights to the Autodesk folders and registry keys before installation. See What permissions are required for Autodesk software installation.
While installing, we recommend disabling Antivirus software and UAC. After installation, add exclusions as suggested in How to set up antivirus (AV) exclusions to improve stability and performance of Autodesk software.
Sign-in and Activation checks
Autodesk software is usually tied to an Autodesk ID. Your Autodesk ID is the user name or email for your Autodesk account. You use it and your password to sign in after launching the product. See Run and authenticate your software.
If your software includes a serial number, the product is activated with that serial number and product key. You can view the serial number in your Autodesk Account or in your confirmation email.
Note: For most versions 2020 and later you can sign in without a serial number, even for standalone licenses.
For single-user subscriptions, you must sign in after installation to use the software. Signing in verifies entitlements and requires two-way communication between Autodesk servers and the client PC. To ensure successful sign-in, make sure the following URLs/protocols are allowed and reachable: Which URLs/Protocols need to be allowed for Autodesk Subscription Licensing. For known conflicting applications, see Autodesk Licensing Service: Known Conflicting Applications.
